FIELD NOTES / MANAGEMENT

An agency or doing it yourself?

An agency can take over agreed operational work, while self-management gives you direct control and avoids a management commission. The right choice depends on your skills, available time and the value of the work being outsourced. Compare retained income and workload after fees, and insist on clear access, reporting and exit terms.

List the work before comparing the fee

Separate creating content from scheduling, chat, promotion, record keeping and analysis. Write down the hours each takes and which tasks you are equipped to do well. An agency proposal should map to those actual needs.

Outsourcing a task only helps if the provider does it reliably within your boundaries. More messages or posts are not useful outcomes by themselves. Ask what the team will be accountable for and how you will inspect its work.

Do the break-even calculation

Ignoring other costs, a 33% management commission leaves 67% of platform net earnings. To retain the same amount as a self-managed page, the managed page would need about 1.49 times the original platform net: 1 ÷ 0.67. That is a mathematical hurdle, not a prediction that an agency will achieve it.

Time saved can still be valuable, and self-management has costs too. Include both in your decision. Use a range of outcomes rather than treating the best-case sales pitch as the base case.

Ask for a trial review framework

A month-to-month arrangement is easier to evaluate when the starting position is documented. Agree the scope, baseline, reports and review date. Separate the impact of new content, discounts, traffic spend and existing subscribers.

Keep account ownership and payment access clear. Understand who can publish, change prices, communicate with fans and approve costs. The exit process should explain access removal and what happens to scheduled work.

When DIY may be the better fit

If your workload is manageable, your systems work and you enjoy the operational side, self-management may suit you. You can also buy narrowly scoped help without delegating the entire account.

Bambi publishes this guide and offers management, so we have a commercial interest. Our recommendation is to compare a written offer with your own records, not assume that hiring us is the right answer for every creator.

BEFORE YOUR NEXT MOVE

Let’s clear
a few things up.

All your questions
Does an agency guarantee more take-home income?

No. Sales can increase without retained income increasing after commission and other costs.

Can I outsource only one task?

Ask providers what scope they offer. A focused contractor arrangement may fit some needs better than full management; Bambi’s published packages should be reviewed on their own terms.
